Safe Hands Productions’ next short film announced! ‘SKINNY BOY’, By Oliver Zarandi
Safe Hands Productions have acquired the rights to the fresh, gritty and exciting new screenplay, 'Skinny Boy', written by published author, Oliver Zarandi. The short film, which will be directed by Zarandi, is auto-biographical and details the experiences of a teenage boy in the early 2000's suffering from an eating disorder.
The aim of the project is to shine a light on the sometimes forgotten cases of male eating disorders and mental health struggles, in a dark comedic and very raw, familial way.
Zarandi says:
"When I was younger, I struggled with an eating disorder for nearly 6 years. Not only was it painful, awkward, frustrating, but it was terrifying too.
I didn’t have any stories to compare my life to.
This film is for the young men and boys who haven’t seen themselves in a story before.
Eating disorder narratives are primarily from a female perspective; I’d like this film to show people that men struggle with this too.
I wasn’t the only person affected by this disordered eating.
There was my mom who had to pick up the pieces. Who didn’t know what was going on, had to do anything she could to keep me alive. My sister who was left out, ignored.
This is not an educational film. There is no overt moral to the story here.
It’s painful, funny, awkward and explosive. It’s a story about growing up in the Midlands — under curdled circumstances, warts and all."
Filming is scheduled for October 2026
